OS X - Create New Account

Here is how to create a new administrative account on a computer running OS X. This will allow you to login to a computer without a username or password by creating a new account on that computer that has full administrative privilages. This is mostly intended for people who have forgotten their password and cannot login without it. You do not need a password or username to do this and nothing that is saved on the computer will be deleted. I have no idea if Apple ink. ever sent out updates to fix this problem or if this will work on any other Apple operating systems.

Make sure the computer is turned off.

Press the on button. After you heat the tone, hold down the 'apple' and the 'S' keys on the keyboard.

Release the keys when you see a black screen with white text.

Type: mount -uv /

Press enter

Type: rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

Press enter

Type: shutdown -h now

Press Enter

Turn on the computer and follow the instructions that it gives you to create a new admin account.

Once you have your account set up you can delete the old one by going to system preferences in the apple menu and selecting accounts.
